The eight auspicious symbols are found in all forms of Tibetan art, painted on walls, appliquéd on brocade, carved and wood and sculpted in clay. They represent the essential elements of happiness, health, prosperity, and joy and their causes - merit and wisdom.

Our Auspicious symbols are painted on wood in the traditional kymbur method. At Norbulingka, artists have revived a traditional Tibetan method of relief painting called kyumbur, which adds texture to thangka frescoes and household items. Kyumbur, with its relief effect, lifts motifs from their otherwise flat surfaces, bringing art to life.
