Moving Forward

Another year has slipped by, and though not the best, it was a memorable one. We move forward into 2022 proud of our achievements in riding the Covid-19 storm that has marked the closing year.

With the rest of India, we navigated the worst of Covid in May and June, going into emergency gear, setting up quarantine areas and overall care for our staff and their families. In July, we reopened to the public, and began the process of recovery. There were more ups and down, another lockdown in August, but we rode the waves, and by summer, everyone in Norbulingka was doubly vaccinated. Life went on. Children were sent back to school, then sent home, then sent back once more. On November 15th Norbulingka’s day care , which had been closed since March 2020, was reopened, bringing normalcy back into the lives of our children, the number of which continued to increase with seven babies born during the year.

While steering our journey ahead, we never lost sight of our objectives, doing the best we could under the circumstances, toeing a thin line, one that provided enough support to our staff, while staying within the means afforded by circumstance. Projects long due are beginning to go ahead, and on December 10th, Norbulingka opened a new store in McLeod Ganj, one that offers visitors a glimpse of our life and work, and the richness of Tibetan culture.

Looking back at all that we have gone through, we can only think of all those who have helped us during these difficult times, through their donations, patronage and unwavering material and moral support. We wish everyone a very happy holiday season and a new year that will bring health and happiness to all.

With our best regards,

Dechen Namgyal Maja
Managing Director
